Chapter 7

“Someone wanted to make sure you had enough of anything you wanted in case you were in the mood for something specific,” Canopy teased Twig hours later when they returned. I bit my lip to keep from laughing when I saw they had four large sacks of fresh fruit. “So what’s your pleasure, baby?”

“I always like papaya and figs,” I answered with a smile. “You guys are going to spoil me or make me fat if you think I’m eating all of that before it spoils.”

“There’s always ways for you to work it off again,” Twig replied innocently as he dumped one sack on the blanket I was lying on. “Would you like me to slice it up for you, my love?”

“I would. Dr. Bark gave me strict instructions to lie still and not sit up because something about constricting wounds or blood vessels and the knocks I took to the head.” My lips twitched in thought, trying to remember. “He went really fast and I can’t say I understood most of it, but I’ve had a killer headache so that’s my only excuse.”

“Completely understandable,” Canopy said as he held a fig up to my lips. “Twig and I talked while we were out there.”

I opened wide for him as he fed me, staring into his eyes. I wasn’t sure I was going to like this but they both came back in one piece. They couldn’t have been fighting then, right? “About what?”

“Who do you think we’d talk about?” He rolled his eyes and held up another one for me. “We’ll talk more when you’re feeling better, Nectar. I just wanted you to know that he and I are okay.”

“I’m glad,” I sighed and ate another one. “I never understood I was causing the issues between you guys. You never told me. I thought you both wanting me was the byproduct of—”

“We know that,” Twig interrupted gently as he held out a slice of papaya for me. I ate it and moaned as I closed my eyes. There were few things better in this world than freshly picked and sliced papaya. “Good to know that papaya turns you on.”

“It’s just so fresh and sweet that, yeah,” I mumbled and ate another slice. “So juicy and I was hungry. It’s not like I have a hardon but I do moan at its tasty goodness.”

“Then I shall bring one on every date we have.” Twig gave me a quick kiss before feeding me another slice. I was going to get spoiled if they kept treating me like this.

Then again, I could live with that.

They fed me until I was full. Then they made sure I drank more than my fill to rehydrate. Just when I thought I was going to float away from all the water, Bark okayed me being moved into one of the dwellings. As long as they left my bandages alone and woke me up every hour to make sure I didn’t have a concussion. I wasn’t sure what that was, but it didn’t sound good so I hoped I didn’t have one.
